A group of performers from Residential College 4 dressed up to represent Perak
Petaling Jaya – “Perarakan Citrawarna” was held on 20 November 2023 at the Student Plaza, in front of the main library as part of the 2023 Festival Konvokesyen (FESKUM). The purpose is to explore the diversity and unity of the different states in Malaysia.
Each college represents a different state in Malaysia, and they need to parade according to the characteristics of that state, describing the movements or dances of the represented state. This not only visually represents their designated status, but also embodies the unique cultural essence within the subject area.
Sim Yi Tien, from faculty of arts and social sciences
One of the Residential College 4 performers who was representing Perak, Sim Yi Tien, talked about their experience at this event, “Despite the tight timeline, with merely three days to prepare props and rehearse the intricate dance routines, in the end, we performed successfully”. Their performance showed the Residential College 4 students' resiliency and teamwork in addition to reflecting the distinct cultural identity of Perak.
The event attracted a large audience including students, staff and public to witness Malaysian cultural diversity. "Perarakan Citrawarna" not only celebrates Malaysia's rich culture, but also demonstrates the university’s commitment to cultivating an appreciation for Malaysia’s cultural diversity.
As a key highlight of FESKUM 2023, the event demonstrated the university's dedication to giving students a stage on which to showcase their artistic and cultural pride, thereby fostering a lively and welcoming campus community.
