The route from the main library to Lingkungan Budi has been blocked

Petaling Jaya- the Department of Development and Estate Maintenance (JPPHB) at Universiti Malaya has initiated road improvement works around the Lingkungan Budi and Main Library area. However, the proposal to permanently close the road in front of the main library and turn it into a "Student Plaza" has caused controversy among University of Malaya students.

The "Student Plaza" concept aims to enhance student facilities, but concerns have been raised about the potential impacts of on-campus transportation, leading to increased congestion.

To gather insights, UM students shared their thoughts on the changes. One student expressed frustration about the new bus station's facilities, “the changes have not been easy for us, the bus station has shifted, and now we have to wait at this small stop with minimal shelter, especially during peak hours.”

Additionally, several students are reporting worsening traffic conditions, with commute times doubling or more. Since the changes to the road, the traffic has gotten intolerable. It now takes me more than an hour to travel a distance that used to be only 15 minutes. . It's having an impact on both their schedule and general well-being.

To address these concerns and ensure the student community’s voices are heard, the Suara Siswa Universiti Malaya Students’ Union (SS UMSU) is set to conduct a comprehensive survey and discussed with JPPHB a number of initiatives and suggestions to enhance the comfort and safety of Universiti of Malaya students.
