PETALING JAYA: Universiti Malaya's Chinese Studies Department celebrated its 60th birthday with a formal gala at Dewan Tunku Canselor on October 29. The event received a surprise visit from the King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and his partner, adding a royal touch to the occasion.

The King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and his spouse were personally present.
Former department members and supporters from the Chinese community joined in to acknowledge the department's long journey. The King gave a speech, recognizing the strong support from the Chinese community, and he received a special painting as a token of appreciation.

The Department of Chinese Studies prepared an artwork by Zheng Hao Qian for His Majesty.
The night had a formal tone with the Lee Rubber Chinese Orchestra Kuala Lumpur playing "Dream of the Red Chamber." Teacher Hong Mei Feng followed with heartfelt songs, and there was a display of Chinese and Malay martial arts that caught everyone's attention.

Several fabulous performances took place that night.
Poetry readings in Chinese, Malay, and Indian languages added a thoughtful moment, and the stage came alive with traditional Chinese dance and singing in Chinese and Malay. The King even joined in to show appreciation.

The Chinese Studies Department at Universiti Malaya didn't just mark 60 years; they created a colorful masterpiece of culture, royal presence, and team success. It left everyone amazed and excited for what comes next in their impressive journey.
