PARIS: The only two teams that have won 3 Rugby World Cup titles are facing each other at the Rugby World Cup 2023 final.

South Africa beat New Zealand 12-11 in the final in the Stade de France on Saturday (28 October) to win their third consecutive match by one point and hold the historic 4th Rugby World Cup title.

No luck for All Blacks?

Ian Foster's All Blacks lost the opening game of the competition to France but have since been on an impressive run, beating the then number one-ranked side Ireland and Argentina to reach their first final since 2015.

New Zealand has humiliated many big teams such as Italy, Namibia, Ireland, or even Argentina at the semi-final by 44-6. While the title holder, South Africa won their last three matches by just one point.

According to Chong Xannon, a second year student from Faculty Art and Social Sciences, All Blacks captain Sam Cane who was red-carded in a final is the main reason that brings victory to Springbooks.

Only one player has gotten a card in a men's rugby world cup final prior to the 2023 match, which the Springboks won 12–11. That player was All Blacks fullback Ben Smith, who was given a yellow in 2015.

All Blacks captain Sam Cane stated that after South Africa defeated New Zealand 12–11 in Paris on Saturday, he would always carry the sorrow of being sent off in the Rugby World Cup final.

Speaking at the Stade de France, Cane remarked, "Just so much hurt right now."
